Waikato chefs are banding together to warm local hearts and tums in August, serving up delicious soup while raising funds for Go Eco’s Food Rescue.

The Palate Soup Kitchen will be open every Sunday in August from 12-2pm, and each week different chefs will create a “souperb” dish guests can enjoy for just $25 a bowl.

With the help of sponsors, SkyCity Hamilton, along with supply partners, The Grumpy Baker and Fed Foods, every cent of the price of a bowl of soup will go to Go Eco Food Rescue to help reduce food waste.

Palate’s Head Chef and part owner, Mat McLean says the goal is to raise $10,000 for this cause. “Everyone is doing it tough this winter, including the hospitality industry, but we can still give back and this is a way we can use our skills to do just that.”

Award Winning Chefs

Locals will enjoy soups created by award winning chefs including Andrew Clarke, Harry Williamson, Lisa Quarrie, Amanda-Jo Pickup, Logan Brown and Scott Bray.

Those who can’t make it to the Sunday sessions can grab a takeaway soup to freeze for another time and no soup will go to waste with any leftover soups given to local charity, The Serve.

Founded in 2014 Go Eco Food Rescue turns an environmental issue into a solution to reduce food insecurity. Instead of letting perfectly edible food go to landfill, Go Eco rescue and redistribute it to feed people in the Waikato region, reducing both food waste and carbon emissions.

Over the past 10 years, Go Eco Food Rescue has rescued 3 million kilos of food, partnering with charities and community centres to ensure it helps feed people across the region.
