Caption by Hyatt Central Sydney has officially opened on Monday October 13, marking the brand’s Australian debut.
The 174-room, located in the heart of Haymarket, intends to deliver a fresh approach to lifestyle travel with “community-first hospitality, tech-enabled convenience, and locally inspired design”.
“Caption by Hyatt Central Sydney is more than just a hotel,” said Caption by Hyatt Central Sydney General Manager, Temara Exton, who brings over 20 years of international hospitality experience from across the United States, Asia Pacific, and Australia.
“It’s a place where locals and travellers can feel at home, connect, share ideas, and be part of the vibrant neighbourhood of Haymarket and Central Sydney.”
At the heart of the hotel is Talk Shop, a lively all-day social hub that serves as a café, bar, workspace, and community venue, with a playful, multicultural menu of healthy and indulgent food options by Chef Yammi Cheung.

Renowned Sydney artist Chris Yee, known for bold, contemporary illustrations, brings the streets of Haymarket into the hotel’s lobby and common spaces, while Melbourne-based Samy Baby and Japanese-Australian artist Hiromi Tango, bring diverse artworks.
“My work for Caption by Hyatt Central Sydney is inspired by the streets, energy, people and history of Haymarket,” said Yee.
“This neighbourhood has always been a melting pot of storytelling, culture, food, and creativity — and I wanted the artwork to reflect that spirit, bringing the local vibe directly into the hotel.”
Sustainability is a core focus for the hotel with a focus on locally sourced food and beverages, energy-efficient smart technology, and zero-waste initiatives. Interior designers Mitchell and Eades have recycled, re-purposed and re-used many materials for the hotel.
