Alfred Taylor Development has appointed Capstone Hotel Management as the operator of a 123-room new-build hotel in Marlborough.

The hotel development, which received planning approval last month, is located adjacent to the former Clubs of Marlborough building.

The hotel will be named The Alfred Hotel and is slated to open in 2027.

“We’re delighted to be appointed managers of The Alfred Hotel as part of this exciting riverside development,” said Capstone Hotel Management Managing Director, Clare Davies.

“This new-build hotel marks a significant milestone for Blenheim’s hospitality sector which is in need of new hotel supply, and form part of a world-class entertainment and tourism precinct on the banks of the Taylor River.”

“The Alfred Hotel represents our vision for creating a distinctive riverside hospitality destination that will positively contribute to the local tourism economy. We are pleased to entrust Capstone Hotel Management with our first hotel development,” said developer Chris Thornley.

The Alfred Hotel will form part of a modern hospitality and entertainment precinct on the banks of the city’s Taylor River, and will operate in conjunction with the adjoining Marlborough Wine and Food Experience, which launches in September, and the upcoming Oak and Ivy restaurant.

The precinct also includes the ASB Theatre and the Marlborough Events Centre.

The latest signing brings Capstone’s portfolio to over 20 properties under management, following the acquisition two Wilderness Lodges and Wellington’s Atura Hotel, announced this week.
