Located in the heart of the nation’s capital, QT Canberra has been one of the city’s most stylish hotels since it made a splash onto the scene in 2014 when the former Rydges Lakeside was transformed from top to bottom. The property is popular for politicians, business travellers and families alike and to find out what makes QT Canberra so unique, James Wilkinson sat down with General Manager, Stephen Hollow.

Stephen, QT Canberra is popular on so many levels, from the location to the club lounge, design, rooms and food and beverage on offer. Tell us about your favourite things of the property.
My favourite thing has to be history of the building. As a Canberra icon and one of the first high rise buildings in the area, there are so many amazing stories when you meet our guests, from year 12 formals, weddings and the Bobby McGees dancefloor, everyone has a story about how QT Canberra was part of their Canberra story.

Tell us about the stylish rooms and suites on offer.
The hotel has a mix of Twin, King and Suite products with something to suit every traveller, our corporate guests are looked after with work desks in every room and all the modern requirements, while our leisure guests enjoy getting pampered with Dyson hairdryers, Tom Dixon amenities and all the signature QT touches.

Tell us about the fantastic food and beverage on offer, which is some of the best in Canberra.
Capitol Bar and Grill is driven by a bold influence, where our wood fire grill is the hero of our beef program. The menu features small plates to share, fresh pastas, and a variety of seasonal produce to suit all palates.
We pour from the heart of Canberra, our award-winning wine list proudly showcases the very best of Canberra, alongside a selection of boutique and powerhouse producers from across Australia and around the globe.

What’s your x-factor at the QT Canberra?
Taking in the view from the QT Lounge on level 15, gazing across Parliament House, Lake Burley Griffin and Telstra Tower never gets old, hopefully with a Negroni in hand!

Favourite things to do in the local area?
Grab a coffee and take a stroll around Lake Burley Griffin – there’s no better way to start the day in Canberra, especially if you catch the sunrise first thing in the morning.
