The environment for investment, refurbishment and upgrades in Fiji has never been better, writes Tourism Fiji CEO, Brent Hill.
Tourism in Fiji remains a vital contributor to our economic growth – contributing 40% of the nation’s economy and having strong flow on effects into many sectors such as agriculture, retail and logistics. Today, tourism in Fiji covers a very broad spectrum. From large scale modern resorts to boutique luxurious island resorts and stays, as well as a growing experiences sector – with more and more businesses offering adventure and cultural activities. Fiji offers an almost unparalleled tourism holiday experience, with great weather year-round, clear uncrowded waters, and beautiful accommodation across a broad range from uber-luxurious to value propositions.
Yield remains strong after a record 2024, that saw a record number of tourism arrivals by air and cruise – over 1 million visitors. The focus in 2025 is about continuing to provide value, relative to our competitors, in the unique Fijian way – where happiness comes naturally. New significant product has opened or will open in the next few months, headlined by the completion of the Crowne Plaza Fiji Resort, the Westin Fiji on Denarau, and the Encore by Ramada in Labasa. New announcements for significant projects have been made such as Radisson Mirage Fiji and Rydges Wailoaloa, while construction is ongoing at major projects Vatu Talei (Nadi), Garden Inn by Hilton (Suva), Wananavu Resort (Ra) and Koro Island Resorts (Koro). The environment for investment, refurbishment and upgrades in Fiji has never been better, and with significant Government incentives in play, we encourage investors, owners, white label operators and asset managers to continue to look at Fiji as a very strong option for investment and growth in the region.
In 2025, Fiji looks on target to match last years record tourist arrivals, with a cap on further growth being the lack of new room stock coming on – which should start to ease as the aforementioned projects go live. Major events such as the World Surf League’s Fiji Pro, the NRL, Adventure Next and the Global Sustainable Tourism Council’s Global Summit, continue to shine a light on Fiji and her beauty, while major TV productions like Love Island, Survivor and Mr Beast Games, also showcase Fiji to massive worldwide audiences. Fiji’s award winning marketing through Tourism Fiji and our partners across air and hotels, ensure that Fiji remains top of mind in our key markets – which remain Australia, New Zealand, North America, China, the Pacific Islands and Europe. Tourism Fiji continues to invest and work co-operatively with our partners in these markets to bring tourists to Fiji. And the Fijian Government continues to understand and champion tourism, investing in key infrastructure and marketing for Tourism Fiji, such as the expansion of Nadi International Airport.
