Alfred Taylor Development has appointed Capstone Hotel Management as the operators of a new-build riverside property, to be named The Alfred Hotel, in Blenheim.

The development site is adjacent the former Clubs of Marlborough building and features 123 rooms over six floors. The hotel is expected to be operational in conjunction with the Marlborough Wine and Food Experience which launches in September, followed by the opening of its restaurant, Oak and Ivy.

The project, which received planning approval last month, will transform the banks of the city’s Taylor River and form part of a modern hospitality and entertainment precinct.

The Alfred Hotel will be positioned alongside The Marlborough Wine and Food Experience, ASB Theatre, and the Marlborough Events Centre, creating a premier tourism destination in the heart of Blenheim.

Riverside Hospitality

“We’re delighted to be appointed managers of The Alfred Hotel as part of this exciting riverside development,” said Clare Davies, Managing Director at Capstone Hotel Management. “This new-build hotel marks a significant milestone for Blenheim’s hospitality sector which is in need of new hotel supply, and form part of a world-class entertainment and tourism precinct on the banks of the Taylor River.”

“The Alfred Hotel represents our vision for creating a distinctive riverside hospitality destination that will positively contribute to the local tourism economy. We are pleased to entrust Capstone Hotel Management with our first hotel development,” said developer Chris Thornley.

The Alfred Hotel is expected to open in 2027.

This announcement brings Capstone’s portfolio to 20 properties under management, following the acquisition two Wilderness Lodges and Wellington’s Atura Hotel. This August, Capstone opened The Clements Hotel in Cambridge and will relaunch Queenstown’s Nugget Point Hotel as Coronet Ridge Resort in December.
