Auckland’s hospitality scene turned out in force on Sunday night to celebrate the industry’s creativity, resilience and heart at the 2025 Lewisham Awards. Held at the Viaduct Events Centre, the time-traveller-themed event drew a full house of finalists, judges and industry supporters.

From expertly poured flat whites to standout cocktails and cult-favourite pies, the evening recognised the people and places raising the bar in Tāmaki Makaurau’s vibrant hospo sector.

Making Magic

“Hospitality continues to challenge and evolve,” says Dan Sullivan, Chair of the Lewisham Awards Committee. “But what we’re seeing is the industry digging deeper — pushing boundaries with innovation, connection, and pure dedication. That’s what tonight is about: celebrating those who keep showing up and making magic.”

Karangahape Road stole the spotlight this year, with natural wine bar and bistro Apero taking home two major accolades — Best Chef and Best Wine — while neighbour Pici, a pasta spot with a cult following, was named Best Central Auckland Establishment. Rising talent Lewis Mazza-Carson of Pie Rolla’s, also based in the area, received the Best Emerging Talent award.

Across the city, a diverse range of operators were honoured for excellence — from Tokos Tacos in Avondale (Best West Auckland Establishment), to Casita Miro on Waiheke (Best East), and the newly launched First Mates, Last Laughs in Westhaven Marina, founded by hospitality icon Judith Tabron, winning Best New Establishment.

Hospitality Hero

A special moment of the night recognised Nicola Richards, longtime operator of Monsoon Poon, with the Hospitality Hero Award. The award acknowledged her significant contribution to the industry over two decades, with the popular central city restaurant recently closing its doors in May.

“We’re seeing a shift,” adds Sullivan. “Operators are redefining what hospitality looks like — not just delivering great service, but creating experiences that feel personal, connected and worth sharing. That community mindset is what’s driving loyalty and success.”
